Meet Carrissa, Experienced Digital Account Manager

In the Matter office, while our desks can at times get messy, Carrissa's always stays picture-perfect! A passionate stationery lover, with a keen eye for aesthetics, Carrissa is our go-to for cute keyboard, mouse and notepad combos.  

We interviewed our strategic social media and digital marketing specialist at Matter Agency to learn more about her digital marketing journey, plus her thoughts on the future of the industry. 

A Journey through Experience: 

Carrissa's had a dynamic career journey through the marketing industry. She's currently a Senior Associate at Matter Agency, where she has spent 3 years and 8 months honing her skills in marketing analytics, digital marketing, and marketing strategy.  

Before her role at Matter, Carrissa accumulated valuable experience in organisations like the Cancer Society, Johnson & Johnson Pacific, Sanofi Aventis, and Schering-Plough. She's worked in sales management, as well as a Senior Product Manager and Commercial Manager. 

Getting into Social Media Marketing: 

Armed with an arts and science degree, Carissa ventured into pharmaceuticals and sales. She completed a post-grad diploma in marketing in London, and then entered FMCG marketing. 

While taking a break to have her 3 gorgeous kids, the marketing industry was transformed by the digital age. When Carrissa returned to marketing at the Cancer Society, a digital-whiz college many hours of self-study brought her digital skills to a pro level.  

Her skills of adaptability and quick learning are key due to the fast-paced nature of digital marketing. 

Favourite Aspects of Digital Marketing/Social Media: 

A confessed "number person", Carrissa loves diving into data and the rich insights it offers. Before the digital era, there was a limit to the kind of data marketers could dig up. Fast forward to 2023, and we've got more data at our fingertips than we know what to do with!  

Handling this abundance of data can at times be a challenge according to Carrissa, who always seeks to extract meaningful insights from the wealth of information. 

Future of Social Media and Digital Marketing: 

When looking towards the future of digital marketing and social media, Carrissa believes AI and automation will handle analytical tasks, allowing marketers to focus on strategy and creativity. 

She is confident the human touch of strategic thinking and creativity will remain essential. 

A Keen Traveler:  

Before heading back to New Zealand after her time in the UK, Carrissa spent six months travelling through South America. She explored Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and more with her then-boyfriend, now-husband.
